On June 11, 2008 just hours
before Tommy Emmanuel performed to a sold out Colonial Theater,
I sent Gina Mendello (Tommy's Manager) the following email: From: Dennis Dear Tommy, My son Corey died this
year just a few weeks after his 21st birthday. Corey, his
girlfriend Lauren, and I saw you last year at the Colonial. You
provided us one of the most memorable evenings of our lives.
Corey and Lauren were totally blown away, as I knew they would be,
having seen you 9 times since 2003 myself. Corey was a blossoming
finger-picking guitarist right up to his last night. Tommy, you sometimes sing
a song in concert entitled “Still Can’t Say Goodbye”. Even though
the song is sung from a son’s perspective, the chorus applies every bit
to missing a son as well…. “no matter, how many years go by… I still
can’t say goodbye” I will be at your concert
tonight with Corey’s girlfriend Lauren and 12 other of Corey’s friends
that I am treating to this concert. If you wouldn’t mind, if
you do that song tonight, would you please also dedicate the chorus to
my son Corey’s memory? I understand if you are
not able to do this. Thank you, Sincerely PS – I introduced Bunny Barnes to
your live concerts in 2003 at the Sellersville Theater – you changed
her life forever !!
To my surprise, in the middle of
his performance, Gina handed him a half sheet of paper which ended up
being my
email and Tommy so graciously dedicated "Still Can't Say Goodbye" to Corey Parrish. thank you Tommy ! and thank you Gina ! Dennis, Tommy, Lauren, Rabia  |
